Folk medicine

According to Hentges (1986), curanderismo, the Mexican form of folk healing, is "one of the largest and most widely used formal systems of folk medicine. It is presided over by a curandero, or healer, who is said to have el don, (the gift). Some curanderos also function as mediums, or espiritualistas. Curanderismo is practiced on three levels: the material , the mental and the spiritual."
